This connection or the bond between the user and the product builds up only when the user is satisfied with the product performance and begins to cherish it, which intern creates a demand for the product. Only when the product is customer centric in each and every stage of its ideation, development and execution - it has a chance to be successful and have an appeal big enough for a user to incorporate it into their daily lives. Only when a product positively affects a large number of users successfully, it can finally and in true sense be called an innovation. We asked for product feedbacks in the accessible neighborhood around each one of us, the same group people we consulted during our initial stages of designing and product development. Their opinions, concerns and feedbacks can be categorized as follows( Note : We wrote the following points in English based on our memory of our interviews as they were originally in local languages) : 1) The product was deemed very...

The final decided concept is worked upon, this time working extensively on the materials used/ available, on the mechanical limitations, the physical aspects, and the visual appeal of the product too. Final product is displayed via sketches, a small-mockup model, or by 3-D rendering using CAD or maybe even by making a fully functional working prototype. One thing to keep in mind in the economic aspect is that creating a working prototype would cost at least 10x the price as compared to that in mass production or maybe even more. Via extensive feedback from all strata of users, and improvement mechanisms, the designer arrives at the final product after including all the feasible changes to produce an optimum combination of all the factors in form of the final product that will be sent for mass production. So, we did the 3-D modeling of individual parts of our concept, as well of our final product Individual Parts : 1) CAP structure : 3D software model :...

Using the checklist, the designer arrives at multiple concepts that can solve one/more of the problems that are the main focus. Slowly, via constant feedback system, multiple concepts, designs and ideas are grouped into clusters until one finally arrive at a final concept for the product which contains the solutions to all the problems that we originally intended to solve. In our project, our prime focus is to solve the problem of getting oil burns on face while ensuring a comfortable-cooking environment as mentioned in the checklist. IDEA 1 - To avoid oil burns The most basic concept that solved the core( but not every) of our problem - oil burns was to use sort of a shield that could stop the face. A polycarbonate shield can provide protection from oil and also has anti-fogging properties Problem 1 : No way to stir the oil in utensil Improved concept: Providing pathways/cavities to allow ability to stir Problem 2 : Shield blocks direct access to utensil, which causes unc...

Check is the strategy of design process. Amidst a lot of suggestions , corrections and quest for potential improvements, the relevance of designed product for the intended user / stakeholders may decrease. As such, this would hinder the innovation process and never let the product receive a good enough reponse for mass production. Therefore, keeping the original intended problems that were aimed to solve and key points derived from comprehending it, a strategy/ or a system of key checks is necessary to ensure the design process goes ahead in the correct direction. (Image used only for reference) Each and every of these checks should be satisfied at each and every modification step in the design process. For our support in cooking project, based on suggestions and discussions, these...

Comprehending the problem includes understanding all the aspects to arrive at design insights . Aspects can include a wide variety of line of thoughts : from existing technologies to possible new ones , problems that may arrive with new ones, or the existing problems with similar products. To understand the context and constraints, visualize the entire scenario from both - the user's perspective and the designer's limitations to arrive at design insights For our project, after interaction with primary users, some of the things we realised are that our design for protective equipment should be such that it has anti-fogging properties otherwise its very inconvenient for use in kitchen. Some other problems that we found out are that is shouldn't block side view, shouldn't be heavy since its going to used by elderly etc. (Image ...

To study and understand the existing product or similar products in the market, its entire scenario with respect to target users and its positives and negatives, as experienced by them. This can be done by studying the available data and through a regular looped interaction with all the users and stakeholders at every stage of design process. (Image only for reference) However, to completely understand the context, merely talking to stakeholders isn't enough. A good solution and in-depth understanding can be developed only when the designer deeply empathizes with the people affected by problem and tries to 'live' the problem as close to reality as possible More than 80% of people we interacted with reported suffering minor oil droplet burns as frequently as twice a month. Simila...
